For each ride, we recommend that you consider bringing the following items:
- Riding Safety Gear (helmet, goggles, gloves, riding boots, etc.)
- Spiritual Safety Gear (Bible - the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. (Eph. 6:10-17))
- Personal Comfort Gear (change of clothes for the ride home, snacks & plenty of water)
- Emergency Gear (first aid kit, fire extinguisher, tools, flashlight, tow strap)
Don't worry if you don't have everything and don't pack the entire house. At a minimum, you need a helmet and need to be self-sustaining while we are out on the trails. For very long rides, you may want to bring extra fuel; however, most day rides can be accomplished easily on a single tank of fuel. Most of us rarely bring extra fuel.
Some ATVs are equipped with winches. Those are great if you have them, but often a tow strap is sufficient. GPS devices are also handy to have. Again, if you don't have these things, someone else likely will.
Dress appropriately for the weather. Many of the areas where we go are mountainous and can be significantly cooler than the valleys of home. In the hotter months, some riders wear shorts, but long pants are recommended for safety reasons.
Safety
Riders are encouraged to take a safety course. For additional information about ATV safety and rider education, go the ATV Safety Institute. They list their Golden Rules of ATV safety here. Most serious ATV injuries occur due to excessive speed or when the rider is attempting a maneuver that exceeds his or her skills. The best safety rule is "slow down and THINK."
